In 2016 I started running in an attempt to improve my physical and mental well-being. While grieving the loss of my daughter back in 2017, I found that running helped me cope with the sorrow. The sorrow never left, so I still run.
I started Run161 in the fall of 2017 because I wanted a place to share my passion. The activity, the sport, and the community around running helped me when I needed it the most. I wanted to pay it forward.
Everything on offer here at Run161 is my attempt to pay it forward. I do it because I want to share the magic of running. I do it to pay it forward.

I believe that communication is key to a successful coach-athlete relationship. As a coach, my mission is to understand the athlete.
Only by gaining a real understanding of the athlete’s motivation, headspace and physical standing, can I optimise their training for maximum fitness. With a master’s degree in business finance and administration, I apply the lessons learned from a decade as a professional in business and management to coaching.
Legendary coaches such as Jack Daniels and Pete Pfitzinger are significant influences on my training philosophy. I believe that consistent mileage over time is the foundation for improved performance.
Striking the right balance between quality and quantity is essential to preserve consistency. A coach can only achieve this by communicating well with the athlete and adjusting the plan along the way.
